I love the way the IT world has an acronym for everything .. which is particularly fun when different companies use the same acronym for the same thing. And it’s even more fun when the same acronym is used in other fields. I was talking about bpm to a friend of mine and we hit this issue as he thought I was talking about something else. I was referring to Business Process Monitoring and he was referring Business Process Management, but BPM also means:
- Beats per minute (in medicine)
- Beam Propagation Method (in engineering)
- Business Process Modeling (in business)
- Banca Popolare di Milano (an Italian bank)
and I’m sure there are others. What does BPM mean to you?
