Are you getting lots of Twitter spam? Well, there’s a lot of it that can be attributed to bots that follow people in the hope that you follow them. So, how can you stop bots from getting you in their sight? Well, there’s an interesting service called TrueTwit that you may want to have a look at. Here’s how it works: You sign up for their service and leave your Twitter credentials. Whenever someone follows you, the service will ask them to fill in a CAPTCHA to prove they are really human. If so, it will allow them to follow you, otherwise it will block their access.
So far, to tell you the truth, I haven’t had any problems with anyone trying to sell me questionable material or even diet pills that work, but Twitter is still a relatively new medium and people are just starting to experiment with it. So who knows, this might be useful in the future.

Just did a WhoIs for Truetwit.com. They’ve privatized their details as well as only being a registered URL for less than two months.
Granted, they’re using Twitter’s ‘authorization’ system, but at the same time I didn’t like what I saw after registering a UserID on Twitter I set aside for checking out sites:
“You have successfully signed up for our service. We have sent you an email with a link to activate your account. As soon as your account has been activated we will begin monitoring your followers. ”
Sorry, this was to ‘prevent spammers’ and make sure people weren’t bots trying to follow me ‘after’ I got an account with them.
Nothing to do whatsoever with them ‘monitoring’ my followers.
