Here’s an interesting post I came across which looks at the traditional advice that focusing on content and ignoring search engines is good for your search engine ranking. It looks at a number of different trends amongst search engines and puts together an argument that we DO need to focus on other things besides content. I particularly like that last part of the blog post that talk about a number of search-engine specific things that nobody would implement if they were only focusing on the content, things like XML Sitemaps, Webmaster Tools Registration, Keyword Research, Keyword Targeting, Robots.txt & Meta Robots.
I guess, like with all things, a balance is what’s needed. You wouldn’t use just one lighting fixture in your house, yet you wouldn’ flood it with light either. Being aware of what’s needed and balancing out the different factors is usually the best way to go.
