Getting more location visibility through Google Places

Google have just rebranded their “Local Business Center” services as Google Places, a service for business owners to stake their place on Google Maps, and through this, any location based service that makes use of that service for mapping. Presumably it works as a layer on the map that Google can choose to turn on or off, but business owners can now sign up for £25 a month for their business to be highlighted amongst all the others that business displays. It doesn’t matter if you sell pizza or just have a board showing birth announcements in the centre of town, you can sign up your business as a “Favourite Place”. Google will also give you a sticker with a QR code that people can scan to find your details online.
