I’ve just been cleaning up spam on my LinkedIn account, which is really annoying; as it’s one of the last places I expected to find spam. It was all down to one individual who insisted on posting the same message to various groups I was on, and even multiple emails to my account. Now, it’s not that I was being cold towards the charity she was supporting, but at the end of the day it was unsolicited and I really didn’t want to hear the same thing over and over again. So I emailed back with a link to Net Manners, in particular a post about spam etiquette.

Only a matter of time because I’d be getting pharmaceutical information and that apidexin scam that’s making the rounds; so better nip it in the bud methinks.

One of the great things about the Internet is that it’s a fantastic source of information, a great way to learn. If you’re looking for a question about how to fix your computer, you can find it online. If you have a question about a health condition, you can find it online. If you want to do some lsat prep you can find it online. It’s strange to think that we didn’t really have anything more than books when I was a kid.

And yet, people sometimes struggle with finding the information they need online. This is where search engines and directory services become more and more important, providing a route to the learning you are after. Their value cannot be underestimated. And that’s where Google does a great job of keeping their index clean, reducing the amount of spam and pointing us at the resource we’re interested in. Google, we salute you!

Do you have any domain names that you registered years ago, have kept renewing, but never did anything with? I had a couple of those, but have decided not to renew them this year. It’s useless throwing good money at them; and if I didn’t have time to do anything in the 4 years since I’ve owned them; the chances are that now that we have twins, I certainly won’t be doing anything with them. If you’re hanging onto them, try and do something with them; so, if you have a health domain, how about just putting up some adverts for the best weight loss pills, or if you have a domain name about hosting, put up some content about the accomplishments of an irvine web design company with associated AdSense. Having the domain is the cost, actually putting something up won’t cost you anything.

Have you tried anything like that?

Anyway, I came across a great guide that gives you step-by-step instructions on how to take it apart. It’s much easier to understand than trying to figure out how social security disability works.

Anyway, I’ll take it apart and let you know how I fare. Let’s hope I can manage to fix the problem. I’m hoping it’s a mechanical problem (especially as it rattles), as that should be relatively easier to fix.

It’s always good to know what capabilities you host offers and what sort of sites are best run on it. For example, PHP sites tend to run better on Apache, rather than Windows hosting, while .Net websites should always be hosted on IIS, so Windows hosting is essential. Some hosts offer extras like control panels, databases, stats etc; others don’t. It’s like making sure you have the right parts for your car. Some are interchangable, some, like Teryx suspensions, are a bit more specialised.

So make sure you know what your website needs and make sure you get the right hosting in place. It will pay in the long run.

I was looking at a website that does Machu Picchu travel and realised why the site looks so great, it’s all about the imagery. Ok, it’s a holiday site advertising trips to Peru, so they did have a selection of unique images to work with, but the photos themselves do help the website stand out.

So the advice for everyone out there, is to make your sites as graphic as you can. It will pay off in the end.
