I came across an interesting project that helps you create your own forms. It’s called Email Me Form and uses a wizard to help you build a form. Once the form is built it gives you the code to embed on your site and off you go. Users can visit your site, fill in your form and you’ll get it by email. It doesn’t matter if you’re using it as a contact form, for users to ask for an insurance quote or even for people to order things from your website.

It’s great that these tools exist, they make being a webmaster so much more fun!

If you’re a webmaster and need to add a search facility to your website, well, Bing brings an offering to the game with the Bing Siteowner page. It lets you create a Bing Box on your site that returns results from the Bing search. Keep in mind that there are also sponsored results as part of the page, but in terms of bang for buck, this offering is free and very very effective.

The search returns results off your site, however a second tab also pulls in results from the rest of the Web. Worth keeping in mind if you have a website about diets that work; if a user is searching your site, there are many others out that can can cause him to stray!

The recommendation it gives are based on your tweets, conversations and people you follow, so it’s a great way to find relevant conversations and engage with others on a similar grounding.

Mr Tweet also lets you unleash the power of lists, but creating groups of people you may want to keep an eye on, without actually following them. It’s a great way to help filter out the noise and one that’s worth considering. You might be occasionally interested in tennis or in refissa and want to dip into that ecosphere rather than being constantly immersed in it, and Mr Tweet helps you get that organised.

Have you ever wondered how old a domain is? Well, with the Domain Age Check tool you can find out. It works by looking up the domain you’re requesting in archive.org and netcraft.com. These two websites keep archives of what a website looked like at a particular moment in time, and the Domain Age Check tool will check how far back that history goes. They might not be 100% accurate, but they’ll give a close idea of how old they are. So if you’re looking for the age of that acne solution site you spotted yesterday; just pop it into the Domain Age Check tool and all your questions will be answered.

How quickly does your site load? Don’t know? Where, you can use the Web Page Analyzer to figure it out. All you have to do is give it the URL to your site, it will load up the page, all associated resources and tell you what the loading time is like. It gives you different times based on your connection speed, so you get to see what it’s like if you’re on dialup, or using a high speed satellite internet connection.

So what can you do if your site is loading slowly, well, you can look at what images are being loaded and what scripts your site loads. All these can be optimised to produce the best loading time for your users; and the quicker it loads, the better the user experience.

Do you have embedded video on your website? It’s pretty easy nowadays to embed something from the major video sites into your own site. All it takes is adding a code snippet to your site and you’re all sorted. You need something different if you want to stream live video however; but again, there are a number of live video streaming services available online. But what’s the difference?

Live streaming implies that you’re filming an event in real-time and making it available to people online immediately. This is a bit more complex than when YouTube, Vimeo and other streaming media sites offer. They offer the ability to watch and serve canned video that has been uploaded and staged on their servers.

The great thing is that whatever you need, there’s a service you can tap into!

There’s a new version of Webalizer coming your way soon. Here’s what the website says:

Version 2.20-G1, a pre-release version is now available for testing. This version is a drop-in replacement for sites running v2.01 with no additional changes required. Please test it hard and report anything that breaks (please do not send HTML formatted e-mails as our server will simply ignore them). See the CHANGES file for a list of what’s been changed/added/fixed. A source tarball can be found on our ftp server in the pre-release directory.

Webalizer is a great stats package for the price (it’s free) and it’s a great way to keep up to date with what’s happening on your server, even if you only look at it once in a while. It’s as essential as men’s jewelry on a Ali G, if you get my drift

It’s a new websites called Share A Post that lets you syndicate your blog posts, and also pick up one that someone else has shared and repost it on your website. I’m usually a bit concerned about splogs with this sort of system, as the last thing I want is to find my better posts on a website selling bodybuilding supplements or hair loss products; but I thought I’d give it a try.

It’s still in a trial phase, so there’s not much of an audience, but if you think this sort of thing might appeal to you, check out Share A Post

One tool I like using is the Virtual Magnifying Glass. It’s a small tool you can download that turns the cursor into a magnifier you can move around the screen.

It works very nicely and a great way to take a closer look if you need.
