Hmmm I just noticed that my car (the Jaguar not the BMW) isn’t taxed at the moment as the tax expired at the end of September. The problem is that I need to show my car insurance to get my new tax disc. And my insurance doesn’t get renewed till next week. Bit silly really, but I think I’ll just wait till next week and tax it properly. I’m sure there’s an easier was to check if I have valid car insurance than having to dig up last year’s certificate (that’s assuming I still have it)
I suppose insurance is a pretty great innovation because it minimises the worry you may have about losing something or having it lost. You can insure practically anything nowadays, the other day I saw an advert by a company that specialises in insuring mens wedding rings, I wonder if that’s because they lose them more often then women do
I wonder. Do you reckon you can get insurance for a website? There are quite a few risks you probably would like to mitigate against, including your site getting hacked and any unscheduled downtime you may have. I’m pretty sure you can insure against anything, but does anyone know of any website insurance?

Went out with James and Nick for lunch today and we ended up at the Velvet Lobster. Was great but I noticed they didn’t have have Wifi or any sort of Internet access, which was a bit of a shame. With technologies like WiMax and satellite internet services, there really is no excuse, even if they couldn’t run a line to the shop (wasn’t really a problem in this place though).
Most of the coffee shops around here seem to have Wifi, but there’s also a couple of free places around. Nice to have the connectivity you need when you want it. You never know when you need to look up how many calories a tasty snack has, or that acne cure you promised someone.

Storage is getting cheaper and cheaper and it’s always great to have lots of space. Some time ago I bought a 1Gb micro sd card for my XDA and I’ve only filled 30% of it. Considering I’ve been using it for more than a year, I’d say that I will probably dispose of the phone because I fill up the card.
Or maybe that just means that I don’t use my phone enough

I was playing with a new search engine today called Cuil. It has some cool features, like the fact that is suggests things to search for as you type out your term and the fact that it shows you a pageful of information instead of a list of things. For example, if I search for satellite internet provider, this is what the results page looks like:

Do you see how the results are laid out? I must say, I do find this layout quite refreshing. The question, as always is, is it as relevant as Google?

Do you know who one of the greatest consumers of bandwidth are nowadays? The answer is schools. Rich media is being used more and more in education and students such down all that you can throw at them meaning that they need better and better connections. You do get companies specialising in this, WAN Service Providers like Trillion for example have schools as their main focus, serving more than 1,500 schools. Imagine the bandwidth you need to be feeding into THAT network.

My browser has just upgraded itself to Firefox 3.0.2. Here are the updates from the previous version:
- Fixed several security issues.
- Fixed several stability issues.
- Official releases for Sinhala and Slovene are now available.
- Beta releases for Bengali, Galician, Hindi, Icelandic, Kannada, Marathi, Telegu, and Thai are available for testing.
- Fixed a number of minor issues with the layout of certain web pages.
- Fixed several theme issues that affected right-to-left locales.
- Fixed issue that caused some users with customized toolbars to have their Back and Forward buttons go missing (bug 426026)
- Add new Extended Validation (EV) roots to Firefox 3.0.2.
- On certain IDN sites, the password manager would not fill in username and password details properly.
- Fixed several hangs and crashes that occurred when using screen readers.
- Fixed Mac-specific issues:
- Keyboard shortcuts would stop working in some cases.
- Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Indic characters can not be entered (using IME) into text fields in Flash objects (bug 357670)
- Firefox 3.0.1 could not be used when the user profile is stored on an AFP directory (bug 417037)
Nice that it can update itself when it needs. It’s always good to know you’ve got the latest patches, particularly the security ones! It’s a bit like an athlete on legal steroids, a great way to pack a punch when you particularly need it.
If you haven’t already, download Firefox 3.0.2

Here’s an interesting thing I learnt today. Did you know that if you’re in the middle of a court case, you can get funding to support you till your case is resolved. It’s a concept called pre-settlement funding and the great thing about it is that if the case doesn’t go your way, then you aren’t obliged to pay the loan back.
Well, you can’t consider my blog post legal advice, but it’s always great to know what options are available to you. Just in case you need them.

I’ve decided on the new theme for this website. I’ve looked through quite a few, a WordPress that focused on ads, one which looked like Twitter and one which even had baby clothes as an inspiration. I’ve been using a special new them on my main blog and it’s totally customisable. The means I’ll be able to deploy it here with the minimum of effort and have a great looking site. It’s a bit like Orovo, think of it like the Superfood of blogs. Unfortunately it’s not yet freely available, so it will be a few days before you’ll see a change on this blog.
Or maybe not *wink*

You learn something every day. I wasn’t aware that you can actually get an HDMI switch for your HDMI devices. It’s a switching box that takes 3 inputs and lets you select which one gets displayed on your TV. I knew you could get them for standard video signals, but I mistakenly assumed that HDMI was still too new. Shows how much I know huh?
Anyway, I still haven’t gone high definition here, so I won’t be playing with HDMI for some time yet. I’ll have to wait for my next TV
